We offer pony leads and lessons for children from the age of 4 yrs.
Pony Leads are for half an hour and are recommended for nervous children that want to spend time on a horse. It is a nice easy walk where they can practice balancing exercises to get comfortable in the saddle and being around bigger animals.
Lessons are a combination of horse handling skills and riding skills. During the hour lesson children learn the skills required to prepare a horse for riding such as grooming and saddling.
Lessons are suitable for complete beginners who will spend time on the lunge to improve balance and develop a correct position. As riders become more experienced they will progress through the paces (walk, trot and canter) and possibly have the opportunity to jump as well. Sporting activities and games are also included in lessons to improve confidence and for variety.
We have a fun and relaxed enviornment in which to learn however emphasis is put on safety and the discipline required around large animals.
What to wear
There is no need to go out and buy expensive gear. Helmets are provided.
Students are required to wear:
Long pants such as tights/leggings or tracksuit pants. These are normally more comfortable than jeans.
A comfortable shirt, remembering lessons are conducted outside so something that offers some sun protection is reccommended.
Socks that go above the ankle to prevent rubbing.
Enclosed shoes that at least cover the ankle. They need to have a small heel so the foot can't slip all the way through the stirrup and a smooth sole. If there is too much grip the foot will get stuck in the stirrup. No runners!
